HOW TO CREATE THE PERFECT FACEBOOK POST FOR YOUR BUSINESS.

I have learnt a great deal about social media recently as I’ve been working as a digital content editor for Sustrans.

To start I’d like to share what I’ve learnt about optimising and boosting your Facebook posts for your business, whilst it’s still fresh.

So lets start with the basics.

‘Shareables’, like photos, links and video posts, will perform a great deal better than simple text posts, as these visuals will jump off the page at your audience.

In more detail, link posts drive the largest engagement and will create traffic to a given page, image posts will perform best in terms of clickability and video posts will boost reach.

Breaking it down further, it’s useful to provide short descriptions and a link to each photo and video post. It’s also important that you upload video content directly to Facebook as Facebook’s algorithms push that uploaded video content forward boosting it’s reach and engagement and also will enable auto-play.

Another useful tip I find when creating posts is keep your text tidy. When adding text to a content post, I find it’s best to keep the text on one line. When skimming through posts on your timeline, audience won’t stop to read paragraphs of text, no matter how important it is. Try and keep your text on one line for maximum efficiency. When adding a link to a status, remove the URL code from the text description, as this too will make it messy and unappealing. – Make sure, however, that a link image or box has popped up before removing the link text.

Additionally, to really enhance and boost that post, if it’s a big topic, try including a hashtag ‘#’ followed by a relative word. For example ‘Check out our new #autumn collection‘. Adding a hashtag to a word will allow users to find your post by searching ‘autumn’ in the search bar.

Finally another great way to boost clickability for posts is a little secret called the Curiosity Gap.

Fundamentally, when executed correctly, this marketing tool will allow audience enough information about the post link but not quite enough tempting them to click through to find out more. A good example of this would be ‘You’ll never guess what this dog does next!’. See, already you want to know what the dog did next. Although it’s quite well known in the marketing and social media world and is often scrutinised as being ‘clickbatey’, it will push people to follow a link, which at the end of the day is what your business wants.

I could go on about adding asterisk to either side of a word in the text in a status, making it bold *bold* to draw peoples eye to a specific buzzword you might want to add, but that’s getting too specific. Neat fact though eh.

So I hope this has some what educated you in creating more efficient Facebook friendly posts for yourself and your business.
