Not so long ago I was lucky enough to spend 30 mins with Aoife Caulfield, Digital team at Twitter Dublin, who gave a short presentation on how to make the most out of Twitter as a Non-profit organisation/business. I found the time with her incredibly useful and full of really great tips on how to promote your business.
Lets start with ‘The good tweets’.
> Multi-image tweets do well for business campaigns. Innocent did a great example of this.
> Using RT in a status is 3x more likely to be Re-Tweeted.
> Web Cards will drive traffic to website or specific page on the site. Great if you want a change from simple link posts.
> Lead Gen Cards will give twitter users the opportunity to one-click you their email addresses. This is great for building your mailing-list or adding the emails to a database for specific targeting.
> Don’t use @ or # links in a promoted tweet as you will want twitter users to follow through to your page rather than diverting
> Promoted videos as they work on a cost per view basis. (She was probably told to include this one, needless to say its worth giving it a go).
> It’s important that your posts look good on both desktop and mobile platforms.
When posting, keep in mind that…
Targeting
She went on to recommend the most efficient ways to target specific audiences. Here are the subcategories as follows:
> Followers – your followers.
> Look-a-likes – a Twitter algorithm designed to scan your existing followers and suggest other similar users based on location, age, etc.
> Interests – again, similar to Look-a-likes, Twitter scans your followers frequent searches and suggests what they may be interested in.
> Keywords – Text written in users names or bios.
> Search – search for profiles.
> TV – TV is a very popular trend. Tweeters are found to express their thoughts about decisions made on TV, such as the Xfactor, for example. From here you can second guess what these members may also enjoy.
>Tailored audience – Re-marketed products, such as discounts, will specify members who like a bargain and give an insight into future products they are looking for.
> CRM – relating back to the Lead Gen Cards, Twitter allows business to upload an email database giving you the option to select members profiles by email.
